Inspired by Global Cuisines: Our New Head Chef Adam Taylor

Since March 2024, Adam Taylor's infectious passion for cooking has been shaping the cuisine at ODEON. The globetrotter from Manchester (UK) loves Asian food just as much as the traditional cuisine of the Alpine region.

How did you come to join the ODEON?

Last year, I spent six months working as a private chef. It was an exciting time, but my contract ended in January, and I started looking for something new. I came across the ODEON job ad, checked out the amazing Google reviews, and thought, wow, this could be a great fit. I sent in my CV and, surprisingly, was in for an interview the very next day.

Did your first impression hold up?

Absolutely. I was greeted by an amazing team that welcomed me warmly. I've been here for about three months now and love my job in the heart of the city. It’s a privilege to work in this historic venue and bring my own culinary touch to the menu.

What’s your philosophy in the kitchen?

A good dish requires fresh ingredients and a lot of love. I personally cook with a deep passion and interest in the craft. I’m a chef who doesn’t just delegate but gets hands-on with enthusiasm, sharing my excitement and trying to inspire my team.

When did you first discover your passion for cooking?

Both of my grandfathers were in the food business — one was a chef, and the other had his own bakery in Manchester. I was exposed to food early on, loved helping out in the kitchen, and enjoyed experimenting with different flavors. Going to Tameside Catering College in Manchester felt like a natural next step for me. Afterward, I gained experience in restaurants all over the world before settling in the Bernese Oberland 14 years ago. It was great, living in a chalet and skiing a lot.

Where do you find inspiration today?

I love traveling. I've been to Australia, several African countries, Costa Rica, and frequently to Asia. Nepal, India, and Thailand have left a lasting impression on me. I usually travel alone so I can fully focus on the food. I'm always searching for new culinary highlights. Right now, my favorite dish is Pad Kra Pao, a flavorful stir-fry with ground meat and Thai basil.

Do you share your creations on social media?

Not at all. I’m totally offline when I have free time and enjoy it that way. For balance, I hit the gym or take walks through the city. Even though I’ve lived and worked here for years, I still discover new things in Zurich. It’s a fantastic city!

What are your upcoming projects at ODEON?

Currently, we have an open position for a chef in the ODEON team. I’m looking for someone ambitious, ready to develop their skills and take on responsibility. Feel free to spread the word!
